Dada

Dada (Krishna Lawrence) is one of the three documented architects of Bouyon-Soca, the crossover sub-genre formalised in 2007 with "Pressure boom" by Ricky T in Saint Lucia. His contribution is precise: he brings the Bouyon rhythmic grammar (inherited from the Dominican WCK / Triple Kay ecosystem) into Trinidadian and Saint Lucian Soca production. The result is a fusion circulating across pan-Caribbean Carnival stages. Trinidad, Saint Lucia, Antigua, Guadeloupe, Martinique , without being strictly classified as Bouyon. The editorial distinction to keep: Bouyon-Soca = cross-genre fusion, not a sub-genre of Bouyon in the strict sense. It is a bridge, not an internal mutation. Wikipedia devotes a dedicated article to the sub-genre, an institutional sign of its recognition.

International recognition arrives in 2019 with "Famalay". Co-produced by Dada, performed by Skinny Fabulous (SVG), Machel Montano (Trinidad) and Bunji Garlin (Trinidad), the title wins the Road March in Trinidad in 2019, the equivalent of the Bouyon Road March of Mas Domnik created in 2025. The Medium long-form "The Dominican producer behind the monster Soca hit Famalay" documents precisely the role of Dada / Krishna Lawrence as sound architect of the Dominica → Trinidad connection. It is the first Bouyon → Soca crossover to reach a massive pan-Caribbean audience, well beyond the Creole-speaking zone, and therefore one of the pivotal events in the export history of Bouyon.
