Smokiller

Smokiller is the artist-producer who publicly reactivates the wrecketeng lineage inside contemporary Dominican Bouyon. His editorial contribution is precise: he does not create a new sub-genre, he brings one up to date. When Mr Ridge founds Nasty Business in August 2022 with his self-titled YouTube single, the historic wrecketeng of Nursery Krew Inc. (NKI), Burn Brain Jolly, Charlie Black and Watty, active mainly through the 2000s, risks appearing as a dead archive. Smokiller does exactly the opposite. He explicitly claims the NKI / Burn Brain Jolly matrix and composes from that base, but with trap, drill and R&B hooks that update the rhythmic language for the post-2020 audience.

The Dominican press article published in 2025, translated title: "Smokiller's new project seeks to show the true identity of Bouyon", states that claim explicitly. It is the first press recognition of a direct continuity between the underground line of the 2000s and the wrecketeng modernisation of the 2020s. The editorial boundary that follows is clear: Nasty Business = Mr Ridge sub-genre 2022 (a naming creation); modern wrecketeng = Smokiller 2020 onwards (an NKI continuation); both draw on the same tradition of layering rap and dancehall over a Bouyon base, but with distinct paternities.
