Portsmouth, and twenty years in music

DeeArr is a singer and songwriter from the north of Dominica. Portsmouth, to be precise. The career starts in 2004, at that point he is part of Kru Tracks, one of the groups laying the foundations of Dominican hip-hop in the north of the island. His name circulates on the local scene for almost a decade before "Put It Down" takes first place on the Tempo TV Cross Caribbean Countdown in 2013.

Then silence. Eight years without a single. In 2021 he returns with "Been Too Long (A Letter To Music)", a letter addressed to the music he had left behind. The title says everything: too long away, and he had to write in order to come back.

From the 2021 return to the 2025 Dominica Music Awards

2023 marks the comeback album: "Sorry, Ain't Sorry". No apologies, no regrets. The following year, "Teh-beh" and the Radio Edit version of the album confirm this is not a passing return , DeeArr has restarted the engine.

2025 is the year that changes the tempo. On 24 January, "Spoil You" comes out under OnRepeat Music production. The single is nominated at the Dominica Music Awards. Right behind it arrive "Home With You", "Bumpa", "Dive In" and "R U Down (Tell Me Baby)", four singles running without a pause. That same year he appears on the album "777 Di Bouyon Rockstar" alongside Nailah Blackman, soca royalty from Trinidad and Tobago.

Konshens, Nailah Blackman: the 2025-2026 trajectory

2026 confirms the change of scale. "Carnival Gopwell" and "On De Road" open the year. Then on 30 April, "Stand Up" comes out with Konshens, Khallion and Boogy Rankss. This is the step up , Konshens is a name that carries weight in mainstream Jamaican dancehall, with millions of listeners across the platforms. With Nailah Blackman for soca, Konshens for dancehall, and the Dominica Music Awards base, DeeArr ticks the three boxes that make a regional Caribbean trajectory.

The Portsmouth veteran who had disappeared for eight years is once again a name people notice on the release sheets.
