Nursery Krew Inc.

Nursery Krew Inc. (NKI) is the founding collective of the wrecketeng sub-genre, the underground line of Dominican Bouyon mixing heavy sampling, Bouyon rhythm and a hip-hop / rap / dancehall overlay. Wrecketeng (sometimes written reketeng in the oral sources) precedes Mr Ridge's Nasty Business by roughly twenty years: NKI is active mainly through the 2000s, with a first title estimated as "Peanuts" between 2002 and 2005. The definition retained for the sub-genre holds in one sentence: "Music by Bushtown Clan or anything mixed with heavy hip hop/rap would be under Wrecketeng". The boundary between wrecketeng and classic Bouyon therefore lies in the layering of rap and hip-hop over the rhythmic base of the genre.

The collective works as a matrix rather than as an identified band. The documented members include Jolly Burn Brain (sometimes written Burn Brain Jolly), Charlie Black and Watty. The pioneering DJ-producer DJ Cut, active since the 1990s on the Dominican underground line, is associated with the same network. In parallel exist Bushtown Clan and Klockerz Krew, two other collectives structuring the early bouyon / hip-hop / dancehall line over the same decade. Together, those three collectives (NKI + Bushtown Clan + Klockerz Krew) form the underground root of Dominican Bouyon, a lineage distinct from the "carnival bands" matrix embodied by WCK, Triple Kay and Signal Band.
