From piano at 7 to writing during the 2020 lockdown

Yu Meï, civil name Emmanuelle Titine, starts piano at 7 in Guadeloupe. It is during the 2020 lockdown that she tips towards writing: her first title "Eat Up" circulates across the Caribbean and lays the ground for a solo project. The voice she settles on at that moment is that of an artist who masters an instrument before arriving at Bouyon, and you hear it in the way she builds her melodic lines. It is also a songwriter's trajectory, not only a performer's, which sets her apart in a Gwada map where the writing function stays less exposed.

"Dife Kako" passes 2 million streams

The single "Dife Kako" passes 2 million streams, a rare mark for a Bouyon Gwada artist outside the mainstream circuit. It is the title that settles her voice into the contemporary map and anchors her name in the conversation about the genre's female voices. Yu Meï turns professional in 2021 with "Pine Up", then follows with "Leakey" in 2022. That same year 2021, "Laisse moi passer" with Team Bwé Tou Sa plugs her into the T-BTS network.

Yellow Gaza crossing and the link with the new generation

In 2024, her collaboration with Yellow Gaza on "Plan à 3 (Femmes Fatales Edition Bouyon)" repositions her in a precise lineage: that of the female voices bridging historic Bouyon Gwada , carried by the Yellow Gaza crew, and the new generation settling onto the platforms. Yu Meï stayed in the shadow for a long time, and her streaming figures now speak for her: she counts among the essential voices of the current Bouyon Gwada scene. Her path attaches directly to the New Bouyon Wave and Women of Bouyon chapters, which structure its two readings: the voice of a songwriter trained on piano, and a female voice on a scene where the names breaking through are still limited in number. Both readings coexist and feed each other in the trajectory she has kept building since 2020.
