Ricky Bishop and his rebranded bouyon, #NewBouyon

Ricky Bishop is an artist from Guadeloupe, of Malagasy descent, who gave a name to his version of bouyon: #NewBouyon. Singer, rapper and sound engineer, he starts from the material of the genre born in Dominica, the percussion, the cadence, and grafts on electro, trap and a franglais moving from Creole to French to English. He owns his American influences: when Lil Uzi Vert comes up, he confirms it 100%. His music, he describes himself as "audio crack", built to be addictive and to make you come back.

From ÖVER THE SUN to #runitback, a fast thread of releases

Revealed in 2021 alongside Implaccable, Ricky Bishop lays his style down on the album "ÖVER THE SUN" in 2023. At the end of 2024 he releases the EP "#newbouyon", carried by titles such as "Anlè Mwen" and "Flaques", the project that really sets his signature. Right after, he launches the "#NewBouyonExperience": not concerts, but immersive nights where he performs a handful of titles and brings his world to life. In 2025 he follows with the album "#newbouyonexperience" and the single "Cololo", then in 2026 with the EP "#runitback" and the single "designER". Across a few years, the pace does not slacken.

A bouyon that leaves the Antilles

What sets Ricky Bishop apart is his way of pulling bouyon out of the Antilles. The mix of languages and textures aims at a connected generation straddling Guadeloupe and France, without letting go of the genre's Caribbean roots. His work spills beyond music: he appears at the "Carte blanche à Pol Taburet" at the Bourse de Commerce – Pinault Collection, alongside Implaccable, Lil Rosy and Zepequenai, a bridge between the bouyon scene and contemporary art. Between his EPs, his #NewBouyonExperience nights and his collaborations, Ricky Bishop moves as an artist thinking bouyon in export format, and it is that positioning which makes him interesting to follow right now.
