Bernard Gumbs

Bernard Gumbs, alias Wizito, is the W of YMW. His function in the founding story is very precise: in April 2015 he is the one who first sings the Tolly she want verse in public, at a party in Sandy Ground (Saint Martin). SoualigaPost describes the scene: Youry Fleming, who has just hummed the title on a party bus, asks Wizito to carry it in front of the crowd to test the reaction. The reaction is immediate, strong enough for the trio to record the very next day.

The recording happens at Madtwoz studios in Sandy Ground, over instrumentals composed by D-mitri, Youry's brother and a local beatmaker. Tolly she want thereby becomes the first confirmed Saint Martin Bouyon title. Wizito then appears across the whole documented Tolly Boyz catalogue: On Plonge feat Bilix (29 January 2017, G-Islands video, more than 511,000 YouTube views in two months according to SoualigaPost; SoundCloud release on 17 February 2017 under the title YMW (Tolly Boys) Ft Bilix. On Plonge) and Mannequin Challenge (2017).

In April 2017, The Daily Herald announces the Tolly Boys on the main stage of the Carnival Village during the Youth Extravaganza. That is the documented high point of the 2015-2017 SXM cell. But Wizito's public trace does not stop there: the How We Looking video (Tolly Boy's) comes out in 2021, then Wizito returns solo with TunTun feat Ti Al (production DJ Chimik), a single tagged Bouyon released on 1 August 2025. Wizito's role stays anchored in the founding matrix, as the carrier of the public moment: the one who took Youry's line from the bus to the crowd, and from the crowd to the studio.

The detail of the nickname deserves a mention. Wizito is the stage name; Bernard Gumbs is the civil identity. The nickname is what appears in the credit of the Tolly Boyz / YMW group (the W of YMW), while the francophone press SoualigaPost and the anglophone The Daily Herald both use Bernard Gumbs aka Wizito to name him. That double identification is typical of Caribbean scenes: a civil name for the press, a nickname for the band and the street. This profile keeps both to avoid semantic scattering.
