Gwada G: why he is called Gwada

Gwada G, from Dominica, explains that his name comes from his trips to Guadeloupe: each time he came back, people told him he dressed like a Guadeloupean.

Gwada G comes back from Guadeloupe, once again. In Dominica, people tell him he dresses like a Guadeloupean. The nickname has stuck ever since: Gwada, after Guadeloupe.

He tells that origin in "Bouyon Talks", a two-part interview put online on September 30 then October 7: 15 minutes 11 for the first part, 14 minutes for the second. He also looks back on his start. Around 17, a friend sees his talent and pushes him to record. A freestyle goes viral, and his first studio song follows.

On the new generation, he explains that it used to take a metaphor to dress up a message. His generation's artists opened the door. Today it is raw, and younger artists no longer need a mask.

To a young person who wants to become an artist, he advises listening to their guardians, staying humble and finishing school. The interview closes on a line from Gwada G: "Greatness cannot be stopped".
