Reo and Maurane Voyer: "Joli BB" passes 100,000 views, eyes on Martinique

The video for "Joli BB", the duet between Reo and Martinican singer Maurane Voyer, passes 100,000 YouTube views in one week. Both artists see it as a bridge between Dominica and Martinique, ahead of their World Creole Music Festival sets.

In July, Maurane Voyer and Reo play the same festival in St. Barts. The idea of the duet comes from Maurane Voyer, who already knows Reo's world and many of the songs. The project takes shape a few weeks later in Guadeloupe, at HMC Studio.

The "Joli BB" video comes out on October 10. A week later, it passes 100,000 views on YouTube; on October 20, the counter shows more than 140,000. Reo insists on live drums, to mark bouyon's Dominican roots. The goal, in Reo's words: to "push bouyon in Martinique" and build a musical link the two islands lack.

Maurane Voyer explains that in Martinique, the first bouyon people knew came from Guadeloupe. For about three years, the audience has been taking more interest in the bouyon of Dominica. The singer reports messages from women and men of all ages, and radio stations like the song too.

The two meet again in Dominica this weekend for the World Creole Music Festival: Maurane Voyer is on the Friday, October 23 bill, Reo on Saturday the 24th.
