On Tuesday at noon, the Ti Vilaj Kwéyòl stalls reopen at the Dominica Botanic Gardens for the second of four days. The village runs until 8 p.m., every day through Thursday, October 22.
This is the fifth edition. More than 90 entrepreneurs sell food, drinks, crafts, art and plants. Traditional dishes on the menu: crab backs, callaloo, broth, smoked meats, green fig and saltfish, accras and bakes, with local sweets and drinks. On stage, the official programme lists live music, bouyon, quadrille and other folk dances, cultural demonstrations and showcases by schools and community groups.
The village is part of Dominica's 48th Independence, celebrated from September 19 to November 4 under the theme "Our Journey, Our Legacy, Our Future". The government wants children to learn to see this culture as part of their identity.
Right after, the calendar speeds up: Jounen Chapo Pay on Friday, October 23, and the World Creole Music Festival from October 23 to 25 at Windsor Park.
