Definition
Skinny Banton is the alias of Wayne Robinson, a Dominican singer also known as Shadowflow. The project is created in 1993 and joins the WCK matrix in 1995, the year bouyon-muffin formalizes as a vocal color within the Bouyon grammar.
A homonym must be ruled out: Skinny Banton from Dominica is distinct from the Grenadian Skinny Banton (soca artist, hits Wrong Again 2019, Water 2023). Both sign their music under the same stage name but share no common career.
The vocal contribution
His major contribution within WCK: opening a specific vocal color that did not yet exist in Bouyon. Bouyon-muffin lays a Jamaican ragga toasting and a dancehall phrasing on top of the instrumental Bouyon base. The voice takes the lead; the WCK machine stays, but it now serves a singer.
That vocal graft opens a rougher sub-current, raasuka, which Skinny develops from 1995. The pivotal compilation of this line, Best of Skinny Banton "Bouyon Muffin" (2010, 22 tracks), gathers the pieces that defined the sub-genre.
Active period
Skinny Banton has been active since 1995, with his most visible period between 1995 and the 2010s. The bouyon-muffin / raasuka he develops does not disappear: it remains an archaeological reference within the sub-genre map, distinct from modern hardcore Bouyon and from the Nasty Business developed by Mr Ridge starting in 2022. For precise contemporary collaborations and a fine discographic chronology, sources are still missing on several points.
