Bouyon New Waves
The cream of bouyon: current hits, emerging artists and underrated voices, picked by TIITII NBA.
Behind the name, a duo from Guadeloupe: J2modj and J2mothebeatcooker, a DJ and above all a composer. Their trade is the riddim: the instrumental base that singers ride on.
Starting in 2010, Suppa, the Gaza Girls, Asa Bantan and Miky Ding La ride their riddims. In December 2023, twelve of those instrumentals come back out on "The Story of J2mo", on Drive Duru, in Curaçao.
Back then, the genre is unwelcome. "The authorities flat out wanted to ban bouyon around 2011/2012," says J2mothebeatcooker. The duo keeps going: in May 2025, it still puts out three club riddims, gathered on "BOUYON SESSION BIG CAKE (Clubbing)".
