Dominica marks 48 years of independence this Tuesday

On Tuesday, November 3, Dominica holds its national independence ceremony. Forty-eight years earlier, to the day, the island left the United Kingdom.

The season, opened on September 19 with the Days of Prayer, closes on this official day, ahead of the National Day of Community Service on November 4. This year's theme, "Our Journey, Our Legacy, Our Future," carried two months of celebrations: Flag Day, Ti Vilaj Kwéyòl, the World Creole Music Festival, Jounen Kwéyòl.

On accounts devoted to the genre, bouyon is filed among the sounds that speak for the island, alongside jing ping and cadence-lypso, the two rhythms WCK drew bouyon from in Roseau, in 1988. The message repeats from one account to the next: the land first, the music after.
